How to Hyperlink to Another Slide in Google Slides

Hyperlinked slides make your Google Slides presentation more interactive. This tutorial shows you how to hyperlink to another slide in Google Slides. It also explains how to copy, edit, and delete a link.

Method #1: Add Hyperlink to Text

You can convert the text in Google Slides to a link leading to another slide in your presentation.

Step #1: Open your Google Slides presentation

Sign into your Google account. 

Open your presentation on the Google Slides home screen at  slides.google.com

Step #2: Select the text

In the left navigation pane, select the slide that contains the text you want to convert to a hyperlink. 

Drag over the text with your cursor to select it.

Right-click the selected text and choose Link from the shortcut menu.

Or

Choose Link on the Insert menu.

Or

Click the Insert link icon on the toolbar.

Or

Press Ctrl + K on the keyboard. Press Command + K if you are using a Mac.

Step #3: Select the target

A dialog box pops up. 

Click Slides in this presentation

From the list of slides that appears, choose the slide you want the text to link to. In our example, we have chosen the First Slide.

The text is converted to a link. 


Method #2: Add a Hyperlink to an Image

You can add a hyperlink to an image in Google Slides to lead to another slide in your presentation.

Step #1: Open your Google Slides presentation

Sign into your Google account. Open your presentation on the Google Slides home screen at  slides.google.com

Step #2: Select the image

In the navigation pane on the left, select the slide that contains the image that you want to add a link to. 

Click on the image to select it as shown in our example below.

Choose the Link option on the Insert menu.

Or

Press Ctrl + K on the keyboard. Press Command + K if you are using a Mac.

Or

Click the Insert link icon on the toolbar. 

Step #3: Select the target

From the dialog box that appears, select Slides in this presentation.

Choose the slide you want the image/object to link to. In our example, we have chosen Slide 5.

The link is inserted in the image we selected.


Method #3: Add a Hyperlink to an External Website

You can add a hyperlink from text or an image in your Google Slide to an external website.

Step #1: Open your Google Slides presentation

Sign into your Google account. Open your presentation on the Google Slides home screen at  slides.google.com

Step #2: Select the text or image

In the navigation pane on the left, select the slide that contains the text or image that you want to add a link to. 

Note: In this example, we add a hyperlink to text, but the same steps can be followed to add a hyperlink to an image. The only exception is that you cannot add a hyperlink to an image using the shortcut menu. 

Drag over the text with your cursor to select it.

Right-click the text and choose Link from the shortcut menu.

Or

Choose Link on the Insert menu.

Or

Click the Insert link icon on the toolbar.

Or

Press Ctrl + K on the keyboard. Press Command + K if you are using a Mac.

Step #3: Select the target

A dialog box appears:

Enter appropriate keywords in the Search box to search for the website you would like to link to. Select your choice from the results that show up. 

Or

Paste the URL of a website.

Open the website in a new tab in the browser. Select and copy the website’s URL.

Paste the URL in the search box and click Apply.

The link is created.


Test the Hyperlink

Before you share your Google Slides presentation, first test the links. This is a good practice that ensures that the links lead to the correct slides or websites.

Click Slide show to start your presentation.

In this example, when you mouse over the image, the mouse pointer changes to a hand icon. 

If you click the image, you are taken to the slide it is hyperlinked to. In this case, you are taken to slide 5.

Or

Mouse over the text linked to another slide in the presentation. The mouse pointer changes to a hand icon.

When you click the linked text, you are taken to the slide it links to. In our example, the link leads to the title slide.

Or

Mouse over the text or image linked to an external website. The mouse pointer changes to a hand icon.

When you click it, the targeted website is opened.


Copy / Edit / Delete an Existing Hyperlink

You can copy, edit, and delete existing hyperlinks. 

When you are in edit mode and you select a linked image or text, a dialog box pops up below it.

How to copy the link

To copy the hyperlink, click the Copy link icon. The link is copied to the Windows clipboard. 

You can select another object and paste the link to it. The pasted link will work the same way it worked in the original image/object.

How to edit the link

To edit a link, click the Edit link icon.

The Edit link dialog pops up. You can edit or change the linked text in the text box. You can also use the search box to choose a different slide to link to.

How to delete the link

Click the Remove link icon to delete the link you no longer need.
