Method #1: Create Custom Bullets Using Symbols
Step #1: Open a List in Word
Open an existing document in Word.
Navigate to a list to which you want to add bullets.
Note: You can also create a new list.
Select the list.
Step #2: Choose a Symbol for New Bullets
Click on the Home tab in the top menu bar to change the ribbon.
In the section Paragraph, click on the down arrow next to the Bullets icon.
This will open the Bullet Library.
Click on the Define New Bullet… entry at the bottom.
This will open a dialog box, Define New Bullet.
Click on the Symbol… tab.
- An array of symbols will open.
- Against the entry Font:, click on the down arrow.
- Scroll down and select Wingdings.
- A new array of symbols will open.
- Note: you can select any other Font entry.
- Select a suitable symbol.
- Click on the OK tab to close the array.
Click on the OK tab to close the Define New Bullet dialog box.
The new symbol appears as bullets in your list.
Step #3: Check in Bullet Library
Click on the Home tab in the top menu bar to change the ribbon.
In the section Paragraph, click on the down arrow next to the Bullets icon.
This will open the Bullet Library.
Word has added your new symbol to the library.
Step #4: Change the Color and Size of New Bullet
Click on the Home tab in the top menu bar to change the ribbon.
In the section Paragraph, click on the down arrow next to the Bullets icon.
This will open the Bullet Library.
Click on the Define New Bullet… entry at the bottom.
This will open a dialog box, Define New Bullet.
Click on the Font… tab.
A Font dialog box will open.
Click on the Font tab.
- Under Font:, select Wingdings.
- Under Font style:, select a suitable style.
- Under Size:, select a suitable font size.
- Under Font color:, select a suitable font color.
- Click on the OK tab at the bottom to close the dialog box.
Click on the OK tab to close the Define New Bullet dialog box.
The changed symbol appears as bullets in your list.
You can use the new bullet for another list.
Method #2: Create Custom Bullets Using an Image
Step #1: Open a List in Word
Open an existing document in Word.
Navigate to a list to which you want to add bullets.
Note: You can also create a new list.
Select the list.
Step #2: Choose an Image for New Bullets
Click on the Home tab in the top menu bar to change the ribbon.
In the section Paragraph, click on the down arrow next to the Bullets icon.
This will open the Bullet Library.
Click on the Define New Bullet… entry at the bottom.
This will open a dialog box, Define New Bullet.
Click on the Picture… tab.
An Insert Pictures dialog box will open.
Click on the From a File icon.
The File Manager will open.
Navigate to the folder where you have your bullet image.
Select the image you want.
Click on the Insert tab at the bottom to close the File Manager.
Click on the OK tab to close the Define New Bullet dialog box.
The new symbol appears as bullets in your list.
Step #3: Check in Bullet Library
Click on the Home tab in the top menu bar to change the ribbon.
In the section Paragraph, click on the down arrow next to the Bullets icon.
This will open the Bullet Library.
Word has added your new image to the library.
You can use the new bullet for another list.
Remove Custom Bullet from Library
Step #1: Choose a Custom Bullet to Delete
Click on the Home tab in the top menu bar to change the ribbon.
In the section Paragraph, click on the down arrow next to the Bullets icon.
This will open the Bullet Library.
Right-click on the custom bullet you want to remove.
A new menu will open.
Click on the Remove tab.
Word has removed the custom bullet from the library.
