You may have run into the problem of having an unwanted page in your Word document. Many users don’t know how to get rid of this unnecessary page. Other Microsoft applications like PowerPoint allow you to delete a page with a single click, but Word does not.
However, there are other ways of deleting a page in Word. In this article, we will be talking about three methods.
Let’s get started.
Method #1: Using Backspace or Delete key on the keyboard
This is a simple method of deleting a page on Word by highlighting the entire page and pressing Delete.
Step 1: Open the document.
Of course, the very first step is to open the document that has the page you want to delete.
Once you have your document open in front of you, go to the page that you want to delete.
Step 2: Highlight the entire page.
Next, drag the pointer across the entire page. This would highlight all the items on the page in blue.
Step 3: Press Backspace or Delete.
Press the Backspace (Windows) or Delete (Mac) key to remove the page.
This method would work even if the page is blank.
Method #2: Using keyboard shortcuts
The second way of deleting a page in Word is by using keyboard shortcuts. Note that it is a relatively long process.
Step 1: Go to the extra page you want to delete.
First, open your document. Then, go to the page that you want to delete.
Step 2: Highlight the page using keyboard shortcuts.
For Windows, press Control + G. For Mac, press Command + Option + G. This should open the Find and Replace dialog box which looks something like this:
Step 3: Enter \page in the box.
You should see the prompt ‘Enter page number:’ on the screen. First, click on the page that you want to delete. Then, type \page in the box and press enter. This would highlight the entire page.
Step 4: Close the dialog box and press Delete.
Click on the ‘Close’ button in the dialog box. Then, press Delete or Backspace to remove the page.
This method is a relatively lengthy way of removing a page. This method highlights all the items on the page. Hence, if there are any items that you want to retain- like images or a paragraph- make sure to put them on a separate page.
Method #3: Displaying paragraphs
Sometimes, you may see an unwanted blank page in the middle or end of the document. This may be because of page breaks. You can delete such pages by making the page breaks and paragraphs visible.
Step 1: Go to the Paragraph section in the Home tab.
First, go to the Home tab and click on the paragraphs button. This is what it looks like:
This will highlight all the places where you’ve inserted a paragraph or a page break in the document.
Step 2: Delete the page.
Next, you can select the page break and press Backspace or Delete on your keyboard. This will remove the page.
Conclusion
Now you know how to delete a page in MS Word! It’s good to know more than one method of performing an action, as each of the methods is suitable in different situations.
