3 Ways to Highlight a Line in MS Word
- Using the Shift and the Right Arrow Keys
- By double-clicking and dragging
- Using the Left margin
Method 1: Highlight a Line Using the Shift and Right Arrow Keys
Step 1: Open your Word document.
Step 2: Click the line to be highlighted.
Once your document is ready, click the start of the line that you want to highlight. Press and hold the SHIFT and RIGHT ARROW keys.
Let go of the keys once you reach the end of the line.
You’ll notice that MS Word highlights the line by passing through each character.
Alternatively, you can press and hold the SHIFT + CTRL + RIGHT ARROW keys, so the highlighting goes through each word instead.
Method 2: Highlight a Line by Double-Clicking and Dragging
Step 1: Open your Word document.
Step 2: Double-click the line and drag.
At the start of the line, double-click and hold while dragging your cursor to the end of the line. You can highlight towards any direction depending on where you drag the cursor.
Alternatively, you can simply double-click and hold while dragging the cursor downward, toward the left margin.
You can highlight multiple lines using this method by dragging the cursor to the direction of the lines you want highlighted instead.
Method 3: Highlight a Line Using the Left Margin
This final method makes use of the left margin of your document. Unlike the previous ones, you can quickly highlight a line using this technique with a single click.
Step 1: Open your Word document.
Step 2: Click the Left margin.
Now that your document is ready, move your cursor to the Left margin across the line that you want to highlight.
Then, when your cursor changes into an arrow, click once.
If you need to highlight multiple lines, simply repeat this step while holding the SHIFT key.
