When you want to change the default font in PowerPoint, you have two choices:
- Change the fonts in every slide, one-by-one
- Change the default font for the entire presentation.
You may want to change fonts in every slide to make them different from one another. But this is an enormous task if you have too many slides to handle. In such cases, it is far simpler to change the default font for the entire presentation. We will show you how to do this in simple steps.
You can change default fonts in three different ways:
- Change all fonts in one go
- Change selected fonts
- Change the default font for all textboxes
Let us see how to do the above.
Method #1: Change all fonts in one go
Step #1: Open the Presentation
Step #2: Open the Slide Master view
In the top menu bar, click on the View tab to change the ribbon.
In the Master Views section, click on the Slide Master button to change the ribbon.
The slide will change to the Master Layout view
Step #3: Change the fonts
In the ribbon, under section Background, click on Fonts.
A drop-down menu appears for selecting from many fonts.
Click on Customize Fonts at the bottom.
This opens a dialog box Create New Theme Fonts for changing the Heading Font and Body Font.
Choose the fonts you would prefer to use, and check the result on the right side under Sample.
Once satisfied with your choice of font, select a Name and click on Save to exit the dialog.
The Master Layout view will display the modified fonts.
In the section Close, click on Close Master View to return to your presentation.
Your entire presentation now has the changed fonts.
Method #2: Change selected fonts
Step #1: Open the presentation
Step #2: Replace fonts
Click on the Home tab in the top menu bar to change the ribbon.
In the section Editing, click on the small triangle beside Replace.
This will open a menu, select Replace Fonts.
A dialog box Replace Font will appear.
Under Replace, select the font you wish to change
Under With, select the font you want should appear.
Click on Replace to make the changes in your presentation.
Repeat for any other font you would like to change.
Once satisfied with your choice of font, click on Close to exit the dialog to your presentation.
Your presentation now has the changed fonts.
Method #3: Change the default font for all text boxes
Step #1: Open the presentation
Step #2: Insert a text box
In the top menu bar, click on the Insert tab to change the ribbon.
Under section Text, click on Text Box
PowerPoint will allow you to add a text box in your current slide.
Step #3: Select the font
Fill the text box with your desired content.
Change the font by selecting your desired font from the Font section under the Home tab.
Step #4: Set as default text box
Once satisfied with your choice of font, right-click on the border of the text box.
A menu will open. Click on Set as Default Text Box.
From now on, any text box you create, will have your selection of the font.
