A flyer is basically a single-page brochure. Often, you need flyers to promote your business or other activity. If you are in a hurry, and do not have the time to approach a professional graphic designer, try PowerPoint. It is a user-friendly tool to churn out impressive flyers.
PowerPoint offers simple and powerful features for creating a business flyer with brilliant designs.
There are two methods you can use to make flyers with PowerPoint:
- Using Basic tools
- Using Templates
We will walk you through the quick and easy steps you can take to create amazing flyers with both methods.

Method #1: Making a Flyer Using Basic Tools
This method uses only basic tools to make flyers.
Step #1: Open PowerPoint
Open a new blank presentation in PowerPoint.
Step #2: Resize the Slide
Note: It is advisable to resize the slide to a standard paper size before you begin. US and Canada use letter sized papers (8.5 x 11 inches) as standard. International standard is the A4 sized paper (8.27 x 11.69 inches). We will use the A4 size. You can use any size to suit your requirement.
Click the Design tab in the top menu bar to change the ribbon.
In the section Customize, click the Slide Size icon.
A menu will appear.
Click the Custom Slide Size… tab.
A Slide Size dialog box will appear.
Click the down arrow under Slides sized for:, and select A4 Paper (210×297 mm).
The width and height will fill in automatically.
Under Orientation, and Slides, select either Portrait or Landscape as necessary.
Here, we select Landscape.
Click the OK tab at the bottom.
Another dialog box will appear, offering you two choices:
- Maximize — Use this choice if your new slide size is very small,
- Ensure Fit — Use this choice if your new side size is very large.
Depending on your choice, your slide will change its size.
Step #3: Clear the Slide
Click the Click to add title, and delete it.
Click the Click to add subtitle, and delete it.
Step #4: Insert an Image
Click the Insert tab in the top menu bar to change the ribbon.
In the section Images, click the Pictures icon.
A menu will appear.
Select the source of the image you want to insert.
We are using This Device… .
The File Manager will open.
Navigate to the location of your image.
Select the image.
Click on the Open tab at the bottom.
The image will appear inside the slide.
Use its handles to resize it to the required shape.
Step #5: Add a Shape
Click the Insert tab in the top menu bar to change the ribbon.
In the section Illustrations, click the Shapes icon.
A menu will open.
Under Basic Shapes, click the Parallelogram icon.
The cursor will change to a cross.
Position the cross suitably in the slide.
Hold down the mouse button and drag the mouse to an opposite corner.
A parallelogram will appear in the slide.
Use its handles to resize it.
Step #6: Add Text
Click to select the parallelogram.
Type in your required text.
Change the font, size, color, and position suitably.
Step #7: Add Text Box
Click the Insert tab in the top menu bar to change the ribbon.
In the section Text, click the Text Box icon.
The cursor will change to a cross.
Position the cross suitably in the slide.
Hold down the mouse button and drag the mouse to an opposite corner.
A text box will appear in the slide.
Use its handles to resize it.
Step #8: Add Text
Click to select the text box.
Type in your required text.
Change the font, size, color, and position suitably.
Your flyer is now ready for printing.
Method #2: Making a Flyer Using Templates
This method uses available templates to make a flyer.
Step #1: Search for a Template
Open PowerPoint.
In the left panel, click the New icon.
In the right panel, type Flyer in the search bar.
Click the search icon.
Step #2: Open a Template
PowerPoint will present a number of templates.
Click the one most suitable to your requirements.
A visual presentation of the template will open.
Click the Create button.
The template will download to a slide.
Step #3: Make Changes
Click the text you want to change.
Type in the new text as a replacement.
Change the font, size, color, and position as necessary.
Your flyer is now ready for printing.
