PowerPoint allows you to add an animated GIF to a slide just like you add any other picture to it.

You can add it from a GIF file that you already have stored on your computer’s hard disk. 

Alternately, you can search online on the web for suitable GIFs, and download them for use.

How to add an animated gif in Powerpoint

Step #1: Open a slideshow

Open the PowerPoint slideshow and navigate to the slide where you want to add the GIF.

Step #2: Insert the GIF

Click on the Insert tab on the top menu bar to change the ribbon.

In the Images section, click on the Pictures icon. This will open two choices.

You can insert pictures from:

  • The device you are presently using
  • From an online location

If you already have the GIF stored in a location on your device, click on the first option This Device

This opens the File Manager. Navigate to the location of your GIF, and click on the GIF file. 

PowerPoint inserts the GIF into your slide.

Use the handles on the GIF to place and resize it.

Step #3: Animate the GIF

To animate the GIF, click on the Slide Show tab on the top menu bar to change the ribbon.

In the section Start Slide Show, click on the From Current Slide icon.

PowerPoint allows the GIF to play its animations.
